High-level politics is a good place to hide a crime, especially in Alaska. A political appointee in Alaska is murdered; it could be Just Politics. Annie Brewster, as the lead investigator of the Alaska Investigation Bureau, tries to thread her way through a murder where there are no weapons, no evidence is left behind, no one is a suspect for long, and nearly everyone she finds attached to the victim has a motive. And no one wants to talk to her. Period.

Annie is a middle-aged white woman, but her partners and colleagues represent the great ethnic diversity in Alaska, the most cosmopolitan state in the country. She is a complex character who sees links to murders in her dreams. Though she actively works to discount her visions, she simultaneously believes her dreams are part of the process of crime solution. She is, essentially, her own psychic. But she also likes old time rock and roll, being in Alaska’s outdoors, her husband Fred, and her energetic springer spaniel, Bones.

In the end, most cold cases are not solved, even if it is known who committed the crime. Annie and her new partner Arturo Feliz must cope with this disappointment at the same time they add steadily to the solve rate of the new Cold Case unit formed by the end of the first book in the series.

Nancy Buell - Central Oregon Author and Poet

ABOUT NANCY BUELL

Nancy Atherton Buell was born in Oregon, but spent over half of her life in Alaska with her husband of 50 years and a succession of springer spaniels. She lived in Barrow, Anchorage, Juneau and Kenai, and is now retired to Oregon. Having found her creative voice and the time to use it, she writes every day in her studio.

Nancy has been an educator at every level, from public school to university.
After she retired, she made and sold jewelry, and processed large quantities of fish. Occasionally wrote an educational product. And then, one day, found the bankers box containing all of her youthful poetry and prose. Since then, in her new writing and jewelry studio, she writes, edits, and waits for the next poem to visit.

Key to all of Nancy’s work, and no less in the poetry, is a profound sense of “place,” and how that influences human life. All of her prose vividly describes not only Alaska, but the other places in the nation and in Mexico and Canada to which the characters travel.
